Practical guide

Find and compare materials with Builto

Move from a technical requirement to a verifiable shortlist without losing the link to manufacturer sources.

Start a search
First use

Get started in minutes

Start from the truly binding requirement and add precision only when the results require it.

01

Open Search

Choose a category if you want to narrow the scope immediately.

02

Add requirements

Choose a property, an operator and the required value.

03

Review results

Check values, units, standards and the stated source.

04

Compare or export

Review candidates side by side or download the comparison as CSV or Excel.

Multiple criteria use AND logic: a product appears only when it meets every filter you set.
Working examples

View a ready-made search

High-performance insulation

Set a maximum thermal conductivity and order results by λ.

View demo

Reaction to fire

Filter by the required class and combine it with category, thickness or thermal properties.

Acoustic solution

Search for the required sound reduction and compare products that meet the threshold.

Search and filters

Each criterion consists of a property, a comparison and a value. For numbers, set a threshold; for text, search for an exact or partial match.

  • Category: limits results to a material family.
  • Sort by: orders values of a property.
  • Multiple filters: every requirement must be met by the same product.
Advanced note on text filters

% represents any sequence of characters: A% means “starts with A”; %s1% means “contains s1”.

Results, details and sources

Open Details to inspect available properties, units, declared standards and links to the manufacturer's page or technical datasheet.

Good practice: use Builto to build a shortlist, then verify the latest official documentation before specifying or purchasing a product.

Comparing products

  1. Select relevant products from results.
  2. Choose Compare products.
  3. Read properties, differences and missing data side by side.

Compare products of the same type and always check units, test methods and declared conditions. You can export the table directly from the comparison window.

CSV and Excel export

Use Export CSV for a simple file compatible with Excel, Google Sheets and other tools. Use Export Excel for a structured .xlsx file with requirements, values, units, standards and links to manufacturer sources.

Understanding data correctly

  • Value and unit: read them together; do not compare different units without conversion.
  • Standard: where available, identifies the performance reference.
  • Missing data: does not mean that the product lacks that characteristic.
  • Variants: thickness, format or configuration may change performance.
  • Source: manufacturer documentation remains the reference to verify.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I find a product?

Remove one criterion at a time, check units and thresholds, or broaden the category. A missing value cannot satisfy that filter.

Is data certified by Builto?

Builto organises data from manufacturer sources; it does not replace certifications, design checks or contractual documentation.

Where should I start?

Start from the truly binding requirement, run a broad search and add other criteria progressively.
